Charles University is a traditional centre of education and therefore we consider lifelong learning to be an integral part of our extensive educational activities. We have placed great emphasis on its development and support. The significance and potential of lifelong learning continues to grow, as education is seen not only as preparation for life, but also as an essential part of it. Lifelong learning also guarantees our capacity to adapt to constantly changing conditions.

Lifelong learning is defined as education that complements, deepens, renews or extends the knowledge, skills and qualifications of its participants. Lifelong learning programmes are provided within or outside the framework of accredited study programmes and are carried out in full-time, distance or combined form, not only in Czech but also, for example, in English.

Lifelong learning programmes can be either profession or interest-oriented. This basic division of programmes within the Czech context is based on the Act on Higher Education¹. Specific types of interest-oriented education are foundation courses and the University of the Third Age. Our new offer also includes courses leading to micro-credentials that combine the needs of industry and academia.
