Researchers as Educators: Strategies for Effective University Teaching

            The workshop aims to equip researchers with the essential skills needed to be effective ed

            a university setting. Participants will focus on developing teaching strategies, engaging 
            effectively, and adapting their research expertise to create impactful learning experience
            The workshop will be interactive, emphasizing collaborative activities, discussions, and p

            exercises.
            It is designed for those with English language proficiency at B2 level or above.


            Duration: 3 hours (2x 90 minute sessions; 15 min. break between)
            Learning outcomes

            By the end of the workshop, participants should be able to:

            1.Understand the Student Audience

              • Recognize the diverse learning styles of university students.
              • Emphasize the shift from presentation skills to teaching strategies and the importance
                communication in an educational context.

            2.Design Engaging Lessons:
              • Recognize the importance of lesson planning in university teaching rather than lecturi
              • Develop engaging teaching strategies and techniques for structuring effective lessons.

            3.Enhance Interactive Teaching Techniques:
              • Explore various interactive teaching techniques such as case studies, discussions, and
              • Understand the importance of audience engagement in both presentations and teaching.

            4.Adapt Research for Teaching:
              • Recognize key concepts from research that are essential for effective teaching.
              • Develop strategies for translating complex research content into accessible and engagi

                students.

            Competences developed in the program:

            The program develops certain competences falling under Pillar 1 (Learning and teaching pla
            design), Pillar 2 (Managing the learning and teaching process), and Pillar 6 (Supporting t
            learning with digital technologies) of the Framework for Effective Teaching at CU.

            These include:

            Lecturer:
            Jason Hwang, B.Sc., BA, M.Ed.
            Jason holds an MA in Education (Applied Linguists - 2014), the Cambridge Delta (2010), and

            certificate (2005). He also obtained degrees in Biochemistry/Cell Biology and Theatre from
            of California, San Diego. He has taught at the Universities of Sheffield, Bristol, Edinbur
            SUCHDOL, the Technical University of Liberec, and the Universidad del Desarrollo in Chile,
